How to Embrace the Unknown

how to embrace the unknown

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:9

The unknown makes me uncomfortable. In fact, it scares me at times.

I like to be prepared. I like planning and order. While I do enjoy a little spontaneity here and there in my life, for the most part I like to have an idea of what to expect. But then there’s the unknown. As luck would have it, life is full of the unknowns.  After spending nearly two decades with dementia patients, you would think I would have come to terms with not having all the answers.

The past 18 months have filled our country with questions about the unknown. Now that the election is over I hope we can all just simply let peace begin. We still have many questions regarding the future of our country, the future of our economy, and much more.

Learning to accept that I can’t control and plan every detail of my days and the days of my loved ones has been hard for me. It’s something I continually struggle with. Perhaps you have trouble relinquishing control yourself? Control is a common struggle among women, yet it is necessary to release control to allow God to have His way in our lives.

Isn’t He infinitely better than all we could ever ask or imagine anyway?

If we want to rest in the promises of God’s Word and experience the true peace that surpasses all understanding we have to let it go. (And now a certain Disney song is going to be stuck in your head the rest of the day. Grin!)

There is a peace that comes simply from trusting God with your plans and letting go of your desires and replacing them with His. Even in the unknown, His peace abounds.  Philippians 4:7 states this promise, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

God is in control of your lives and mine, and that includes the unknowns. Will you trust Him with yours today?
