September Book Review

I read some really great books this month – as usual!

Necessary Lies

This book is set in 1960 North Carolina. It’s about a social worker being assigned to a lower class family working on a tobacco plantation during a time when sterilization was a routine form of birth control to keep needy families off of the welfare system. It’s beautifully written. I couldn’t put it down!

Speak Love

This is my latest in my line of Annie Downs books, and again I just love her! This book is geared towards a younger audience, and as someone in women’s ministry I like to read a variety of literature for all age groups. She really hits home with teens and young women on the power of our big mouths and the destruction they bring. If you have a young gal, I highly suggest this one.

Draw the Circle

I’ve been using this book as a supplement to my daily quiet time every morning. I’ve mentioned before that prayer is a topic I am studying in great detail right now, and Mark Batterson is a great writer on the subject. This book is the supplemental devotional to his book The Circle Maker that I read several years ago. I’m thinking about pulling it out and reading it again to awaken that desire for a deeper prayer life.

Lioness Arising

I love, LOVE Lisa Bevere. She is one tough gal and she really encourages women of all ages to fight for our faith. I can’t think of anything worth standing up for like Christ. This was an empowering read that I blew through!

Hosea

Hosea is my latest Bible study book, and I enjoyed it immensely. Jennifer is a great writer, and really makes the Bible easier to grasp for some women. Have y’all read anything by her before? I hadn’t, but I will definitely be looking for more!

*************

I’m really in need of some good suggestions for next month. What have you been reading lately? Anything you suggest I should try?

Be sure to come back tomorrow for What’s Up Wednesday! (I love that post!)
