North Pole Breakfast 2019

Happy December to you, friends!

November FLEW by in the Bounds house. So much has happened that I can’t wait to share with you throughout this month. Up first is our newest tradition, the North Pole Breakfast!

Many families use the North Pole Breakfast to either celebrate the arrival of the Elf on the Shelf or to kickoff Advent. We are going to incorporate both – eventually. Liam is obviously too young to understand the Elf (or Christmas in general) right now, so we opted to celebrate the arrival of Advent which is most important to our family.

Having a North Pole Breakfast is creatively up to you. It should take place approximately the Saturday before December, usually the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so you can celebrate Advent officially on the 1st. This year I chose a traditional red and green theme: wrapping paper for a table runner, Christmas scrapbook paper for placemats (not pictured), and various Christmas knicknacks (bottle brush trees and candy cane tree/house). I cooked green pancakes to standout against the red plates, pigs in blankets, fruit (grapes and strawberries for the red and green theme), and chocolate/powdered donuts. It was a sugar overload – but that’s the point. What do you think they eat for breakfast at the North Pole? Probably not omelets with turkey bacon!

Here’s a look at our fun morning…

I set everything up Friday night and rose early Saturday morning to fix the food.

This was my favorite part – how I incorporated Liam into the fun. Santa left him a handwritten letter this time around. In the future it might be from the Elf or something else I come up with. I want to celebrate the fun but also keep the focus on Christ’s birth.

His very first candy cane!

Each year an ornament will be waiting on him to hang on his bedroom tree. I’m considering giving him ornaments that represent his year, his interests or big highlights. I also want to find a way of delivering a set of Christmas pjs too. He already had four pairs this year, so I didn’t buy another.

He also tried his very first pancake!

We invited Judson’s mom over to join in the fun.

This magnetic Advent calendar is an easy way to count down the month of December. I opted for this version rather than a “prize” or candy calendar. Liam is too young to understand anything, so this was the right choice for us. I hope to present him a new one each year or every other year. We’ll see.

And of course Peanut was in on all the action! He helped us clean up the pigs in blankets – without the blankets!

I had the best time planning this breakfast and looking for ways to bring the “magic” into the season. You can truly do this at any time. Work with what you have around the house for decor or give yourself a small budget – whatever is best for your family. I promise you will enjoy the magic too!
