Are You Down in the Dumps?

“We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ,” 2 Corinthians 10:5.

Do you want more energy? More strength? Or more confidence? Imagine living each and every day to the fullest. Being down in the dumps stinks. We find ourselves depressed from time to time for a variety of reasons, and sometimes we can’t really explain why.

Life has a way of taking us over sometimes. Before we know it, we’re tired, angry and have lost control of our thoughts. Going too long without filling our hearts and minds with the Word of God causes us to become resentful and ineffective in everything we do.

  • Sometimes we find ourselves in a low season because of:
  • Gloomy, rainy weather
  • Chaotic atmosphere at home or work
  • Financial setbacks
  • Family struggles
  • Physical illness

We have so much to be thankful for, yet we still find the weight of the world on our shoulders. This is nothing to be ashamed of, friend. It’s okay that we feel down in the dumps sometimes. (However, if you are feeling continuously depressed to the point of physical sickness and harm, please reach out to your medical provider or a trusted loved one immediately.)

My challenge for you today is to find ways to rejuvenate your soul. Luke 5:16 tells us, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Jesus actually took time to himself. He took time to himself to be alone with God and to pray. How often do we spend time alone with God in prayer? I’m not talking about five minutes before bed. I mean scheduled time alone with God. How can you incorporate this into your schedule?

What are some other ways you can rejuvenate your soul?

·         Do you enjoy reading?
·         Spending time with friends?
·         A long bubble bath?
·         Retail therapy? (Within reason of course!)
·         How about a mani/pedi?

Find ways to reset your soul. Spend purposeful time alone with God. Gloomy periods will come, but they don’t have to linger.
