But the rest of you are like…

I’m with Lil Nut!

So this month I only read four books. Actually, in full disclosure, I read A LOT more this month because I had two research papers to write. But I figured if I recapped that you’d all be…

Let’s get started!

Wonder by [Palacio, R. J.]

Wonder

I’m probably the last person in the world to read this one, but I wanted to watch the movie. I have a rule about reading the book before the movie comes out. Honestly, it is a sweet story, but I don’t get all the hype. What am I missing? Does having children make this book more relatable?  In this story, August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. Have you read this one yet?

Sharing Jesus without Freaking Out: Evangelism the Way You Were Born to Do It by [Reid, Alvin]

Sharing Jesus Without Freaking Out

How many of you are witnessing as much as you should? I’m willing to bet not many. I picked up this book for a little help in this department. God created you for his glory to advance his gospel with the gifts, talents, and opportunities he gave you. You live at this time in history for a purpose bigger than yourself. In these pages you will read how to connect the gospel story with your story, and how to talk about that story in normal conversations with people you know. I really learned a lot from this one.

Fervent: A Woman's Battle Plan to Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer by [Shirer, Priscilla]

Fervent

You have an enemy . . . I have an enemy. And he’s dead set on destroying all you hold dear and keeping you from experiencing abundant life in Christ. What’s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn’t general or generic, not a one-size-fits-all. It’s specific. Personalized. Targeted. So this book is your chance to strike back. With prayer. With a weapon that really works. Each chapter will guide you in crafting prayer strategies that hit the enemy where it hurts, letting him know you’re on to him and that you won’t back down. Because with every new strategy you build, you’re turning the fiercest battles of life into precise strikes against him and his handiwork, each one infused with the power of God’s Spirit. Add this one to your cart NOW!!!

Made to Crave: Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, Not Food by [TerKeurst, Lysa]

Made to Crave

If you read my post here, you know what my thoughts are on everyone getting their “summer bodies”. Girls are posting that junk on social media not to promote health, and it shames other ladies. If you’re tired of it, stand up! But if you truly are looking for advice on health, wellness, and body issues, may I suggest this book to you?   ccording to Lysa, craving isn’t a bad thing. But the challenge is to realize God created us to crave so we’d ultimately desire more of Him in our lives, not more food. Many of us have misplaced that craving, and overindulge in physical pleasures instead of lasting spiritual satisfaction.

From Amazon: If you or someone you know is struggling with unhealthy eating habits, Made to Crave will help:

  • Break the “I’ll start again Monday cycle” and start feeling good about yourself today
  • Stop beating yourself up over the numbers on the scale and make peace with the body you’ve been given
  • Discover how weight loss struggles aren’t a curse but, rather, a blessing in the making
  • Replace justifications that lead to diet failure with empowering go-to scripts that lead to victory
  • Eat healthy without feeling deprived
  • Reach a healthy weight goal while growing closer to God through the process
