May Book Review

You guys, I have the most random Book Review post for you yet! I don’t know how I came to read the books I did, but each of them is so different.
Let’s dive right in!

Island Girls

I love Nantucket/beachy reads this time of year. In Island Girls, three estranged sisters find themselves back on Nantucket after their father’s death (they each have a different mother) to sell their inheirited island house. I love each girl for different reasons: you’ve got the sass, the smarty, and the sensitive. As their lives converge, so does the drama, romance, and love for one another. The pefect summer read with a happy ending.

At That Point in Time

I loved this book so much! This is Fred Thompson’s memoir of his time serving on the minority council during the Watergate scandal. I love American history and politics, and he has just enough smart eleck in him to make this story great.

Let’s All Be Brave

This was a reread for me. I heart Annie Downs and wanted to reread this one for encouragement. If you struggle with fear or insecurity and long for the chance to be brave, maybe even to shine, this book will win you over.

Bachelor Nation

Bachelor Nation is a behind-the-scenes, unauthorized look into the reality television phenomenon. The author interviewed dozens of producers, contestants, and celebrity fans to give readers never-before-told details of the show’s inner workings: what it’s like to be trapped in the mansion “bubble”; dark, juicy tales of producer manipulation; and revelations about the alcohol-fueled debauchery that occurs long before the fantasy suite. A quick and fun read for any fan of the franchise.

Get Out of that Pit

Boy, do I know what a pit is. Maybe you do too? I read this one ten years ago, and I decided to read it again. We all need a little encouragment from time to time. This is Beth’s most stirring message of the sheer hope, utter deliverance, and complete and glorious freedom of God.

Breaking Busy

I was first introduced to Alli Worthington on Annie Downs’s podcast (see, I love Annie!). Have you ever felt like a fraud or failure as you struggle to find balance in life? Do you find yourself juggling everything in mediocrity and feeling like you’re succeeding at very little? This book tackles the big questions about finding happiness and one’s God-given purpose.

Sex, Jesus, and the Conversations the Church Forgot

This was waaaayyy off my normal reading patterns. I guess that’s the thing with Seminary, it breaks you out of your comfort zone. This is an interesting read for anyone working with youth, teens, college ministries, or if you have a child in that age group. That’s all I’m saying about this one.

Nancy Drew 15

And I finished the month with three more Nancy Drew’s. I’m loving this trip down memory lane. Nancy Drew reminds me so much of my Mom. She was the first to introduce me to the series, and I think of her each time I read a book.

That’s seven more books (I don’t count the Nancy Drews) for you! Do you have any suggestions for me? My Amazon wish list is well over 200 now!
