Space Camp 2023

Happy Tuesday, friends! This blog is now officially a Space Camp appreciation blog. There are at least six other posts on this site dedicated to visiting the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. What can I say? My family loves space! I fell in love in 1996 when I first attended a Space Camp. After four years of being a camper, I decided to major in aerospace engineering. That lasted about a day in college. I hate math. But I still love all things space and aviation. I took my engineer husband for his first time in 2018, and it turned into an annual thing. And now for the last two years, twice a year!

Since our hotel and trip were paid a few months in advance, I had an extra adult ticket after Judson’s passing. Liam and I invited MawMaw along for the ride for her first road trip with us. (And quite possibly her last. That’s yet to be determined!) Here’s a little recap of our time at the space center.

We said hello to Miss Baker, the first monkeynaut to travel into space and return alive. I get a kick out of people leaving bananas on her headstone.

Greetings from two NASA nerds!

Once inside, we got right to work checking out Liam’s favorite exhibits.

We watched what was going on live on the international space station.

He says he’s not going to be an astronaut. He wants to be the one to “tell astronauts what to do in space.” He is definitely my child, I know!

Testing out the Mercury flight simulator…

“Mommy, that’s a Saturn V!” He’s right!

He loves all the rides and simulators!

“We all live in a yellow submarine…”

Giving MawMaw the grand tour of Rocket Park…

Courtesy selfie to show I was actually there…

We watched a documentary in the planetarium…

And rode the hypership…

And then a massive storm hit and the power went out, so…

We received complimentary tickets to return the next day!

Back on the hypership!

I also allow Liam plenty of time in the Spark lab for little engineers. He understands so much of that stuff it scares me!

I just love Space Camp! And I’m so glad that Judson, Liam, and I all shared this love and enjoyed our family time together. Now, MawMaw has been initiated into the adventure crew. We may or may not have returned to space camp just two weeks later, but that’s for another post! Have a great day!
