Reads Lately
Happy Wednesday, friends! Today I am sharing some of my favorite reads from the past few months. I’ve read a few others that aren’t even worth sharing, but these most definitely made the cut. I think there might be a little something for everyone in these books. War, politics, memoirs, comedy, and inspirational. I’d say the last book is probably the one I enjoyed the most because she too understands deep, life-altering tragedy and grief.

I loved this book and the documentary. This story offers a glimpse into the life of what I view as a “perfectly poised” woman who has navigated challenges with grace and determination.

This is their story, but the ending frustrated me. After all that the reader went through? Ugh. War. (You need to read it.)
Jesus understands our lives because he was human too. He faced the same hardships and personal struggles that we encounter on a daily basis. He felt our deepest sadness and experienced our darkest solitude. Jesus gets us.
This book is for those of us who’ve worked really hard to build a beautiful, godly life but sometimes you just don’t like it.

Kristin Hannah can do no wrong. I have LOVED every single book she has written. Set in the Vietnam War, Kristin gives an intimate portrait of coming of age in a dangerous time as an Army nurse in Vietnam and an epic tale of a nation divided.
I bought this book after Liam was born and reread it recently. Toddlers are fun, huh? As moms, we drive ourselves crazy trying to keep up with our kids and the Joneses at the same time. This book is laugh out loud funny and gives an encouraging framework for godly parenting.
I loved this one! A female codebreaker puts her future on the line in this novel about love, loyalty, betrayal, and Cold War spy games. This is really fun if you love a good puzzle!
I am open to conversations with all political parties when they are treated openly without bias. I am no idealogue, but I will always stand on the Word of God wherever that lands politically. I really enjoyed this United States Senator John Fetterman shares the story of his journey in public service (which started by winning his first election by a single vote in 2005), including details of his life-threatening stroke and struggles with depression, the truth about what really happens in Washington, and his vision for navigating our divided country’s future.
Christianity isn’t about following rules, it’s about a relationship. In Ten Words to Live By, Jen Wilkin presents a fresh biblical look at the Ten Commandments, showing how they come to bear on our lives today as we seek to love God and others, to live in joyful freedom, and to long for that future day when God will be rightly worshiped for eternity.
I listened to the audio version of this one, read by the author, while driving back from Space Camp. It was the perfect listen if you are prone to do some of your best thinking while driving. We’ve all tried to think our way out of bad habits and unhealthy thought patterns, only to find ourselves stuck with an out-of-control mind and off-track daily life. Groeschel lays out practical strategies that will free you from the grip of harmful, destructive thinking and enable you to live the life of joy and peace that God intends you to live.
