Fall in New England – Massachusetts

Happy Tuesday!

After yesterday’s post, I guess you might have learned I LOVE FALL. One thing Judson and I always wanted to do was take in New England in the fall. Liam is always up for an adventure, and since he’s such a good traveler (95% of the time), I decided it was time to do a Fall in New England road trip. I made a list of places I most wanted to see, like Massachusetts and Vermont, and added in a few other stops. Well, we were actually able to visit all SEVEN New England States + New York in only one week.

If you were to do this trip, you might have different interests or want to stay longer in certain areas, but with a four-year-old I kept it simple. Two nights in Massachusetts, two in Vermont, two in New Hampshire.

We began our trip in the historical city of Boston, Massachusetts!

How long did you say this flight is???

All aboard, and all smiles!

We stayed at the Boston Marriot Copley Place. It was a wonderful central Boston location.

We were given the 28th floor, and Liam just thought that was incredible.

We grabbed dinner at the hotel restaurant before taking a stroll around town.

Liam eats like a four-year-old, so he had cheese curds while mom ate a steak.

You can see how sleepy his little eyes were getting, so we didn’t stay out long.

After a good night’s sleep, we headed out for our first full day in Mass. Liam had never eaten al fresco before, so we found a cute bakery and enjoyed the cooler than Mississippi temperatures.

We then hopped on an infamous “Duck Boat” for a tour and ride through the Charles River.

And guess who they called up to drive!!!

But Mr. Personality won him a spot at the helm as well!

I am a huge history buff, and I signed us up for a guided tour of the Freedom Trail – churches, burying grounds, parks, and historic markers that tell the story of Boston’s role in the American Revolution. I enjoyed it immensely, and even ole short legs made the walk and didn’t complain which was a win!

Now Liam will tell you this next part was his favorite of the whole trip – the Lindt chocolate factory. I walked out with 100 handpicked Lindor truffles in assorted flavors of our choosing.

After a long day of walking, we opted for dinner at the hotel again. I had the lobster and shrimp pasta, and it was delish!

We checked out on our second morning in Boston, but we weren’t done with Massachusetts just yet. We saw the historic Boston Tea Party boat, but we did not tour it. We were headed to Plymouth!

It smelled so beachy and good here!

There she is! Plymouth Rock. Bigger than I expected, it is heavily guarded with iron barriers and security cameras, but I leaned as close as I could for a good view. There’s a lot of history in this photo.

Then it was off to see the Mayflower II. This is an identical reproduction of the ship that came to America in 1620. England commissioned this ship as a gift to the US for their assistance n WW2. It still sails periodically for various events.
