Favorite Christmas Everything – Part 2!
Hey, friends!
I hope your week is going well so far. I’m enjoying all the Christmas festivities and food over here. I’m also enjoying spending the time blogging and interacting with you more regularly!
On Monday I shared Part 1 of my Favorite Christmas Everything where we talked about our favorite Christmas movies and music. Today we are talking about our favorite Christmas books and songs!
(If you missed Part 1 you can find it here!)
I wanted to make an inclusive Christmas book list without going into a Book Review of every Christmas book I’ve ever read. This list includes the most meaningful, interesting, and classic. I hope you find one new one to read this season!
This one made me cry. The Nativity story is told beautifully, and you can’t beat a Lucado book. Also included is an Advent daily bible study after the book text. I highly encourage everyone to read this one.
Rick Warren is a controversial writer I know, but I think this small gift book is on point for the Christmas story. It incorporates all the important parts of why a Messiah was needed and the yearning for the Christ child. If you read it I’d love to hear your thoughts.
You can’t beat an Ann Voskamp book. She is wonderful with words and story telling. This book is broken down into an Advent reading plan based on the story of the Jesse Tree. It also includes lines where you can write notes or relate that day’s reading to your personal life. Beautiful.
This story is fiction, but it is so intriguing. It incorporates all of the elements of a good Christmas story, but it also keeps you on your toes. You know how some Christmas books read like a Hallmark Christmas movie and from page 1 you have it figured out? This is not that book. You will not guess the ending!
If you’re looking for a lighthearted yet realistic Christmas series to read, this one is for you. There are four books in the Winter Street Series and each story unfolds over a different Christmas building off the preceding year. It’s very realistic; you can see your family members at each page turn. It also just brings out the nostalgia and tradition of Christmas from ribbon candy to Beyer’s Choice Carolers, mulled cider and the works!
Of course no story is as classic as A Christmas Carol. We all need a little refresher every now and then. Approximately four billion films have been made over the years, but if you’ve never read the Dickens original, please do!
She Reads Truth Advent Studies
If you are ever looking for a Bible study to complete over the Christmas season, I cannot recommend She Reads Truth enough. I did their Advent study last year, and I’m doing one again this year. They will lead you to yearn for Christ’s anticipated arrival.
Next up we have our favorite Christmas songs of all time!
I know there are a dozen arrangements of each of these, but the singers I listed below are my faves. Call this my ultimate playlist!
Happy Holiday – Andy Williams
White Christmas – Bing Crosby
Sleigh Ride – Johnny Mathis
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer – Elmo and Patsy
Wonderful Christmastime – Paul McCartney
All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey
Do You Hear What I Hear? – Carrie Underwood
The Christmas Song – Nat King Cole
Silver Bells – Bing Crosby
Rocking Around the Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee
Did any of your favorites make the list? I’d love for you to leave a comment with your favorite songs and books too! Stop back by tomorrow for Friday Favorites!
