Hawaii Part 1
Today I am finally sharing the post many of you have asked for… Hawaii!
Liam and I visited Hawaii in early January, and we were able to see four of the islands: Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, and Kauai. We flew into Honolulu for two days to explore beautiful Oahu where we stayed at the Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort. Our hotel overlooked both the beach and Diamond Head depending on which side of the hotel you stayed. We happened to have a corner balcony facing Waikiki Beach, but we also could see the mountain range too. Perfect!
All smiles on the longest plane ride he had experience to date!
He’s a pro traveler. He settles right in and does his thing. I couldn’t ask for a better behaved child on airplanes.
We spent the first few hours exploring our hotel before hitting…
Waikiki Beach! Y’all, it really is the dream tropical paradise!
There’s Diamond Head!
I booked Liam and me a semi-private guided tour of Honolulu which included visits to palaces and Punchbowl Crater on the way to…
Pearl Harbor. This is a MUST SEE.
It is a special opportunity to be able to look down over the USS Arizona. My grandfather was in the Navy and served in the Pacific right after the tragic day in 1941.
The oil still spills 80+ years later. Such a special memory with my son.
We returned to our resort, pictured above, for dinner and a little time on the beach at night.
On day 3, we boarded the beautiful Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America for a 7-night inter-island cruise. We finally got our leis!
This was Liam’s first cruise!
We went all out in our Hawaiian best for dinners. I purchased several Hawaiian dresses and shirts for LIam before we left, and we loved playing dress up every night.
Our first port of call was Maui. We signed up for a charter boat whale watching excursion, and it was absolutely incredible. We saw dozens of humpbacks, and Liam was simply in awe the whole time. I highly recommend this excursion!
The evening after our whale watching adventure, Liam created his own sonar system to listen to whales in our cabin. It was quite creative!
Our second morning in Maui gave us this double rainbow! In fact, we saw a rainbow on Maui, Hawaii, and Kauai.
Poor Liam. I think I tortured him with this adventure – we hiked to the top of Haleakala Crater! It was freezing at the top. Seriously, it was in the twenties, and we were in tees and shorts.
Cold or not, what an experience!
We enjoyed warming up at the ship’s pool that afternoon!
Then it was off to dinner once again. This was the most amazing trip with Liam. I can’t wait to share more of it with you in days to come. I know the cost of Hawaii possibly scares some of you, but honestly, don’t postpone joy out of fear. It is absolutely doable, even for a mom and a 4-year-old. Liam and I have taken many adventures, and we both say Hawaii is at the top of the list.
