May Book Review

Hey, friends! I did not get to read quite as many books this month since I’ve been back at work and other ministry needs at church have needed my attention. The only thing I’m truly getting to read is the Bible. I am enjoying working my way through my chronological Bible in the New Living Translation. One of my life goals is to read through the Scriptures in at least seven different translations!

Let’s take a look at the three reads for the month of May!

Slim for Life: My Insider Secrets to Simple, Fast, and Lasting Weight Loss by [Jillian Michaels]

Slim for Life

It’s no secret how much I love Jillian Michaels. Like most of you, I first met her on The Biggest Loser decades ago, and I still follow her today. I’ve read several of her books, love her podcast, and really enjoy the FREE 7 minute workouts on her app. She knows her stuff. After losing 50 pounds in 2020, I am soaking in her knowledge on maintaining weight loss. This is not her book to read if you want to start losing weight (I’d start with Winning by Losing for that), but this read is for maintenance and getting back on track if you slip. Highly recommend!

American Government 101: From the Continental Congress to the Iowa Caucus, Everything You Need to Know About US Politics (Adams 101) by [Kathleen Sears]

American Government 101

I may be in the minority here, but I love all things government and politics. There are a few things on the news or my favorite podcasts (shoutout to BillOReilly.com!) that I didn’t quite understand, so I ordered this book to go back to the basics. It’s been a long time since I learned about American Government, so it was a great refresher. And NO, this is NOT a textbook!

The Impossible Girl by [Lydia Kang]

The Impossible Girl

This was my May Book Club book, so I was not previously introduced to this one. Y’all, it was GOOD! A woman is born with two hearts and a price on her head for medical research. Ironically, she is also a grave robber and steals corpses for medical research. The story takes place in the mid 1850s, and I love all of the historical references. Such a fun read!

I’m looking forward to some really good summer/beachy reads over these next few months. Do you have any good recommendations? I haven’t read any suspense in awhile either, so I’m open for suggestions there too! I will see you back here tomorrow with my Friday Favorites!
