December Book Review

I haven’t been able to keep up with my book reviews on the blog the last few months, but I haven’t stopped reading! That said, I have several good books to recommend to you today. December is always one of my most read months. I try to read a lot of Christmas encouragement, but I don’t stop there. Let’s check them out!

All Through The Night: A Suspense Story (Holiday Classics) by [Mary Higgins Clark]

All Through the Night

Mary Higgins Clark always writes clean suspense, something I greatly appreciate. In this story, a teenage mom drops off her newborn in front of a church in hopes that the priest would find a good home for the baby. Instead, a thief happens upon the child escaping his arrest and uses the baby to blend in unnoticed. He then tries to raise the child as his own to be his cover.

Awaking Wonder: Opening Your Child's Heart to the Beauty of Learning by [Sally Clarkson]

Awaking Wonder

I love everything Sally Clarkson writes. She is just so encouraging! I loved learning about all the ways we can teach our children to walk in wonder of God’s world through family, home, and education. This memoir-style book tells her journey through unconventional homeschooling and how it raised her children to be thoughtful Christ-followers.

Deck the Halls (Holiday Classics) by [Mary Higgins Clark, Carol Higgins Clark]

Deck the Halls

Another MHC Christmas tale about a kidnapping gone wrong. The kidnappers use a suspense writer’s stories to make his crimes more unique and less traceable.

Hidden Christmas: The Surprising Truth Behind the Birth of Christ by [Timothy Keller]

Hidden Christmas

This short book is a quick dive into the more sacred meanings of the Christmas story.

Living a Life You Love: Embracing the Adventure of Being Led by the Holy Spirit by [Joyce Meyer]

Living a Life You Love

I really enjoyed this book! Joyce shares many ways to truly enjoy your life, have adventure, and give the glory back to God.

Bring on the Merry

This was a neat book. I thought it was going to be more of an Advent devotional, but it’s really much different. It does have 25 devotions written by Candace, but it also includes many beloved Christmas stories, poems, and hymns. Also included are different activities to journal, doodle, or think through events in your life that revolve around the Christmas story.

The Rock, The Road, and The Rabbi

Wow! What a read! I thoroughly enjoyed every word of this book. It was much deeper than I ever expected going in. There is deep Christian and Jewish theology and a lot of Hebrew language. It will definitely be among those books I’ve read that changed my life.

Loving My Actual Life: An Experiment in Relishing What's Right in Front of Me by [Alexandra Kuykendall]

Loving My Actual Life

This book reads much like a journal with daily entries on how the author is doing about a given topic: organization, spirituality, activity, etc.

God Bless This Mess: Learning to Live and Love Through Life's Best (and Worst) Moments by [Hannah Brown]

God Bless This Mess

This book was a total surprise for me. It is so well written! Hannah has come a long way since her time on TV, and the outline of her theology and translating it into an easy to understand language for the everyday woman is perfect. She has quite the story, and it is worth the read!

I wrapped up 2021 with 9 books this month, all of which I would recommend. I have already started working on my reading goals and what I want to enjoy in the new year, so stay tuned!

  1. Thank you for sharing these novels you’ve recommend! I’m in a book club here and we meet in person once a month and are always looking for new suggestions from other readers. We’ve almost filled out our list but I like a good mystery. I read several books a month and am looking forward to reading some of your suggestions❤️Aunt Kay
