June Book Review

This might just be my favorite post of the month! I love sharing my reads with you. If you’re newer to the blog I am a HUGE reader averaging 50-75 books per year. I post what I’ve read monthly with a short review – no spoilers. I read most genres (I do draw the line on some), so you’ll find many great recommendations for Christian inspo, non-fiction, fiction, and suspense. I also LOVE historical fiction.

If you would like to see books from the past, I have over 6 years of reading documented on my BOOKS page. You can find it here. Be sure to scroll through the drop down to see all of the posts from 2015-2020. On each page I will list all of the books I have read each month. If you click on the title, it will take you to where you can purchase the book for yourself. If you click on the month, it will take you to the post where I reviewed the books read that month.

I’m also very active on Goodreads and if you are interested in following me, you can find my page here.

I read 4 books this month, so let’s dive in!

The Haunting of Brynn Wilder: A Novel by [Wendy Webb]

The Haunting of Brynn Wilder

This was my book club read for June and without book club, I never would have heard of this story. It is certainly not a “thriller”, but it does leave a little suspense between chapters. After a devastating loss, Brynn Wilder escapes to a lakeside tourist town in Minnesota for the summer. She hopes to find perspective, but she falls into the company of an eclectic group of strangers as a mystery begins to emerge. An Alzheimer’s patient knows things she shouldn’t, bad dreams and whispers are common. And all of it involves Brynn. I never saw the ending coming!

The Girl with the Louding Voice: A Novel by [Abi Daré]

The Girl with the Louding Voice

I have had this book for over a year and finally took the time to read it. Wow! This is a tragically inspiring story of a teenage girl growing up in rural Nigeria. All she wants is an education and a voice to speak for herself. She encounters insurmountable obstacles, poverty, abuse, and so much more she fights for what she believes in. It is such a beautiful story.

The End of Me

I picked up this sweet little book at the Southern Baptist Convention earlier this month. It’s a great story of how God uses daily struggles and sacrifices of motherhood to make us more like Christ. Author Liz Wann talks about how hard motherhood can be physically, mentally, and spiritually. Then she teaches the reader what to do when they reach their limits. This book encourages moms to depend on Christ when they reach the end of themselves. A great, quick read.

Malibu Rising: A Novel by [Taylor Jenkins Reid]

Malibu Rising

This book was my Book of the Month Club selection for the month, and I couldn’t wait to dive in. The story is set in Malibu 1983 on the day of an end-of-summer party. Everyone wants to be around the Rivas, the infamous children of a famous singer. The only people not looking forward to the party are the guests of honor. Why? This must read delivers a great tale of disaster, secrets, and love. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a phenomenal author!
