Pupdate (+Cats)

Hey, friends! Thanks for stopping by today. I thought it would be fun to catch up with the Bounds Fur Fam and see what they have been up to. There’s so many, so I know it’s hard for you to keep up with all of them – I have the same problem too! In my 3.5 years of marriage, Judson and I have had nine pets. I only brought Peanut into the relationship, so I can blame all the others on Jud right? Right?! Ha! You know better!

So here’s a little “Pup”date, but I included the cats too because, well, they’re family too. I married into a bunch of cat lovers. I NEVER ever imagined owning a cat, let alone four. We will start with the pups!

Ellie

Ellie Rose is a female Australian Shepherd. She was approximately two months old when my friend/coworker found her thrown out at a gas station. She was nasty and covered in fleas. We gave Ellie her first bath in a tiny pedestal sink at work, and lucky for me, Jud Bounds fell in love with this little fluff at first text message. He didn’t even put up a fight (which he did – and lost – with all the other pets…)! Ellie is Jud’s dog through and through. She loves me and Liam, but she is a farm dog all the way.

She rides all the equipment with Jud and is usually a hot mess.

I would go so far to say that she is the favorite of all, even the grandparents! She’s the only one welcome at my dad’s and my father in law adores her too.

And she’s the only allowed indoors (when she’s clean).

I often call Ellie Liam’s “Nanny”. She is very protective. She keeps the cats away and tends to sit by him. Liam calls her “Ollie”.

While she isn’t the oldest dog (she’s 3), we have had her the longest of the pups.

Jackson

Jackson Bentley joined the Bounds Fur Fam in January of 2020. He was 4 and grew up on a horse farm. Jackson had to be rehomed to keep him safe, so when we adopted him he looked like this photo below.

His previous owner gave me a few baby pics though because I am so that dog mom! Wasn’t he precious?

Jackson is the male Australian Shepherd, and no, we aren’t breeding them. Ellie was already fixed before he arrived. Jackson’s nickname is Crazypants because he is wild and nutso but so much fun. He is totally my dog. He worships the ground I walk on and protects me, sits on me, always attached to me like a barnacle.

Jax is my protector, and I love my crazy boy!

Molly

Molly Catherine is the baby of the family, even younger than the cats. She’s an 18 month old Cur (like Ole Yeller just in brown). Her arrival to the Bounds home is a wild story, but it was obviously meant to be. Molly was found by an Alzheimer’s patient who couldn’t explain how she found the puppy. Obviously she was unable to care for the puppy, so her daughter gave her to a friend who would find her a home. I am the lucky winner! Molly is so, so sweet. She’s the biggest of all the pets, but she is such a shy and submissive baby.

She arrived just a few days after Jackson, so it’s like they “grew up” together.

She’s not aware of her strength, but she is so fun and playful.

Molly is one of those dogs that just wants to be loved, and she is!

Jinx

And now for the cats. How did I wind up with three cats? I have to admit, I love these fellas. Meet the “Space Kitties”. First up is Gemini Jinx Orion. Each cat is named after a space program and a constellation with a nickname in between. Jinx is my yellow tabby. We have had him longer than any other pet in the Bounds Fur Family. We adopted him from the Hattiesburg Humane Society shortly after we married. He was 9 months old then – and born without a tail!

He might be cute, but don’t let him fool you. He’s the crazy one. Jinx will be sound asleep and .05 seconds later he’s literally climbing the walls, scratching the door frames, or hanging upside down.

He is also Liam’s favorite cat.

Jinx is the most affectionate cat I’ve ever known. He demands your attention and always wants to snuggle and be in your lap. The first kitty I have ever loved!

Smudge

Oh, Smudge…where do I even start? Apollo Smudge Andromeda stole my heart when I was VERY pregnant. I went in the vet to pick up Peanut’s medicine, and there was a cage of teensy tiny kittens by the desk. Apparently someone dumped a litter of kittens at a local church who had taken them to the vet. The receptionist told me I could have a free kitten with any purchase. I went to the car and called Judson to at least give him the idea that he was part of the decision (wink wink). I knew we already had everything we needed for cats, so my hormonal heart chose the kitten that was hanging from the top of the cage like a monkey. His litter mates were all shy and hiding in the corner while Smudge was just having a good ole time. Yep, he was meant to be with me!

My playful kitty is the grump of the bunch!

Smudge is definitely the alpha cat. You will know when he’s in the room He makes his presence known.

Liam loves driving Smudge crazy. Just today he was spraying the cat with Febreeze. Smudge is just so easy to pick on because he always has his nose in the air.

But he still knows who rescued him!

Ashes

Mercury Ashes Draco was quite unplanned. One morning my father in law dropped Ashes and his litter mate, Callie, off in my house and left them. Thanks, PawPaw. Callie hid for a week, but Ashes made himself quite at home. He is soooo affectionate. I often wake up to find him under my arm or snuggled up next to me. Jud too. He’s the cat version of Molly. He just wants to be loved.

This was Ashes with his sister who only lived with us three weeks before she died. Their brother had a genetic mutation that caused organ failure, and apparently Callie had it too. We couldn’t save her in time. She passed quickly. Ashes didn’t even notice because he had two new brothers to play with.

God love him, Ashes gets the worst treatment. He’s always getting smushed or stepped on. Smudge bullies him too. But he is a good sport and still loves on Smudge later.

*There will be no more cats in the Bounds Fur Fam!*

**I suppose I should also say Jud Bounds will not allow another dog either!**

Sadie

Oh, my sweet Sadie. She’s the sweetest pet I’ve ever owned. Click on her name above to read her story. She was hit by a car in 2019 and passed away, but I remember her all the time.

Peanut

Like I’m going to miss an opportunity to talk about the best friend I’ve ever had! I couldn’t talk about the six living pets without talking about the love of my life. Peanut James Monroe was everything to me. You can click on his name above to read his story. God put this Chihuahua in my life for a very specific reason. He was my angel, and I still cry about him nearly every day. Liam says “NutNut” is with Granny. Peanut and my mom passed away within a few months of each other. So much heartbreak, but so much love.

Gosh, I love my babies! I am so blessed with the fur love. Tell me about your furbabies below!
