Space Camp Part 2
Hey guys! Welcome back! Today I am sharing Part 2 of my weekend at Space Camp!
If you missed Part 1 you can find it here.
Let’s dive right in…
We wrapped up day 2 with a tour of Aviation Challenge. Judson said that he wished he could have attended AC as a teen. It’s just like being at the Air Force Academy with a space emphasis.
(You know who went twice!)
There are literally fighter jets and helicopters everywhere.
Those campers are practicing water drills, what to do if you went down over water.
Photography was not allowed in a lot of Aviation Challenge, so you get to look at the planes Jud took pictures of!
Inside a fighter jet sim…
After a long hot day we hopped in the hotel pool and literally watched the International Space Station float by above us. So cool!
Up and at em on day 3 to visit the Marshall Space Flight Center. It is housed on an active military base, so again, a lot of photography was not allowed. Truthfully, a lot has changed in the 19 years since I was last there. They used to build rockets and work on shuttles right there on the base. You could see the men and women in white suits in pressure controlled environments. Since the US isn’t building shuttles anymore, the site is mostly a research facility.
This is a full-size mock up of the International Space Station that astronaunts train in.
Here we have the control room that monitors and operates the ISS 24/7/365.
A live look from the cameras on board the ISS…
We continued with a tour around the base…
The underground hideouts where they tested the original Mercury Redstone rockets…
He’s so clueless when I pose him like this!
A water cooling system on board the ISS
Here’s one sweaty girl to show you where it all began – Alan Shepherd, the first American in space, tested his Mercury Redstone right there on that stand in 1961 in little ole Huntsville, Alabama.

Such a silly interest, I know, but I just love NASA and cannot wait to take on Mars! Thanks for following along!
