Just Me, JC – 35 on My 35th

Hey, Everyone!

Since today is my 29th, um, 35th birthday, I thought I would share 35 things you may or may not know about me! I’m skipping the obvious – I have an amazing family, the cutest baby in the world, I act just like my dad, and I am way too obsessed with my chihuahua. These are silly, some are fun, all are true. Let’s see how well you know me!

My nickname is Jeanie. My brother Thomas started calling me Jeanie when he was a wee thing, and the name stuck. All of my family – parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, husband, and in-laws call me Jeanie.

I have been to 27 states and 6 countries.

If I could live in any state other than Mississippi it would be North Carolina.

I have never colored my hair. This blonde is completely natural.

I am OBSESSED with NASA and the space program. I met two of the original Mercury 7 astronauts, attended Space Camp 5 times, and begged my husband and brother to take me last year.  I will be one of the first civilians that sign up to go into space.

I could read music before I could read books.

I took bagpipe lessons for a few years. I broke a tooth, damaged a nerve, had to have a root canal, and now have a crown.

I can play the piano and the French horn (and not the bagpipes!

My favorite TV show is Gilmore Girls.

My first job was working in a daycare.

I can speak Alzheimer’s. For some reason I am really good at understanding what dementia patients are trying to communicate, and I can easily redirect patients with behaviors. I consider this a spiritual gift.

I am a direct descendent of two presidents: James Monroe and James Madison.

My favorite color is pink.

My favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid.

I can trace my family geneology waaayyyy back. I’m talking Braveheart, Vikings, and a King. (I always knew I was meant for royalty!)

I adore flowers. My favorites are yellow roses, and I despise lilies. They remind me of sinus infections and funeral homes.

I secretly wish I could be on Dancing with the Stars.

My dream career was to be an astronaut (obviously), but my fallback was to perform on Broadway.

I have performed on Broadway – I sang while walking down the street. Ha!

I legit have performed in Hollywood and on the Vegas strip.

I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. We call them the #boundsfurfive (Peanut is my favorite of course!)

If I could have dinner with one person living or dead it would be my mom pre-dementia.

I’ve been bitten by a brown recluse and needed crutches.

If I could have a superpower it would be eating whatever I want without gaining a pound.

I am addicted to skin care and terrified of wrinkles.

I have never had a cup of coffee. A sip here and there over the last 35 years was all I needed. Nasty!

I’ve had a near death experience. I was run over by a car. It destroyed me physically and emotionally.

I want to go on a safari in Africa.

My biggest fear is failure. Snakes are a close second.

I despise anything milk related – I don’t touch milk, cheese (except mozarella on a pizza), sour cream, etc. And my ice cream needs to be chocolate with all the toppings. Preferably Rocky Road.

My favorite band is Jimmy Eat World.

My favorite solo artist is Jewel.

My favorite season is fall. I love pumpkins so much that I had dozens of them in my wedding, and I host a “Fallelujia Night” every fall to celebrate all things…fall!

If a genie could grant me just one wish it would be to heal my mother.

I have an amazing group of girlfriends. Most of my friendships have spanned decades. Sandy was literally brought into my life by God. I don’t see Laura and Jennifer as much as I’d like nowdays, but I know that if I need anything at all they will be there.

Sam is literally one of a kind. I can’t imagine doing life without her. I don’t have the opportunity to see my college friend Andrea much at all these days, but she is one of those that sticks with you for life. I haven’t spoken to my college roommate in quite awhile, but Breanne was seriously one of those friends that only comes around a couple of times in a lifetime. I’ve made friendships at work like Charlotte and Kathy that I reminisce about. And although I rarely get the opportunity to see my high school friends, I hold special memories of my high school friends like Hilari, Cindy, Stacey, Jennifer, Allison, Leigh Anne, and Kimberly. Now that I’m living in Newton, I’m cultivating new relationships that I hope to continue the rest of my adult life as we raise our children together.

I think 25, I mean 35 (I’ve really got to be more careful!), might just be the best year yet! Thanks for reading my blog, friends. My 2019 Book Review so far will be up tomorrow. I’ll see you then!
